Multi-million dollar hydrogen storage project announced
The three companies developing the joint initiative HYBRIT project – SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall – have commenced building a rock cavern storage facility for fossil-free hydrogen gas on a pilot scale. The facility will be located next to HYBRIT’s pilot facility for direct reduction in Luleå, North of Sweden. According to Swedish steelmaker SSAB, the move is an important step in the development of a fossil-free value chain for fossil-free steel. An investment cost of just over SEK 250 million US$29 million) is divided equally across the holding companies and the Swedish Energy Agency, which provides support via Industriklivet.

US$2 trillion infrastructure plan will mean historic job growth
President Joe Biden was in Pittsburgh, PA, yesterday to announce the roll-out of his infrastructure plan for the USA. The two-part plan, which, he said, was not a plan that 'tinkers around the edges', is designed to create millions of good-paying jobs and grow the US economy in the process.
