Next-generation mine to aid Europe's energy transition ambitions
ABB has announced a collaboration with Norge Mining, an Anglo-Norwegian mining company, to conduct a FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) study for a future Norwegian upstream mine production which has the potential to supply minerals used in electric vehicles and solar panels needed for the clean energy revolution, and fertilizer demand, for at least 50 years.

US steel import market share estimated at 21%
Based on the US Commerce Department’s most recent steel import monitoring and analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reports that steel import permit applications for the month of July totalled 2.26Mt [all amounts listed are in net tons].

Salzgitter reports a good start to 2023
German steelmaker Salzgitter has reported an encouraging start to the financial year 2023, followed by a gradual deterioration in the economic environment. The company delivered a presentable H1 EBITDA of € 461 million and earnings before taxes of € 243 million.

Grupo Simec, a leading international producer of special bar quality (SBQ) steel, steel wire, rebar, and commercial and structural steel long products, has announced it will indefinitely idle steelmaking operations at its Republic Steel mills in Canton, Ohio, and Lackawanna, N.Y.

'Towards-zero' steel supplied to exhaust tech company
Stainless steelmaker Outokumpu’s Circle Green steel- the ‘world’s first towards-zero stainless steel’, supplied in partnership with thyssenkrupp Materials processing Europe, will be used by Purem by Eberspaecher, an exhaust technology and solutions provider.
