Vietnam’s largest iron ore pellet mill inaugurated
A US$14.1M facility producing iron ore pellets, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, was inaugurated in Vi Xuyen district, the north-western province of Ha Giang on October 15 after over one year of construction.

SGL closes Canadian electrode plant
As part of the SGL2015 cost savings programme SGL is to close its graphite electrode plant in Wiesbaden, Quebec, Canada. These Lachute operations will begin to wind down at the end of the year with expected completion within Q1/2014. 110 employees will be impacted.

Hyundai Steel takes Hysco's cold rolled business
Aiming to optimize the management efficiency of its steelmaking business, Hyundai Motor Group decided to merge Hyundai Steel and the cold rolled steel sheet division of Hyundai Hysco, officials said Thursday (17 Oct. 2013).

Kobe and Angang sign jv for automotive cold-rolled HSS
Kobe Steel, Ltd and China’s Angang Steel Company Ltd, a leading subsidiary of Anshan Iron & Steel Group Complex, signed a joint venture agreement to establish a joint venture in China to produce and sell advanced cold-rolled high-strength galvanised steel sheet for automobiles. The two companies had been conducting a joint study to explore the possibility of establishing a joint venture in China.

US ISM Index grows in September
The American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) report that the ISM index for all manufacturing in the USA came in at 56.2% for September, an increase of 0.5% from August.
