Chinese crude steel output to top 720Mt in ‘12
Crude steel output in China amounted to 660.13Mt in the first 11 months of 2012, up 2.9% from a year earlier. Output for the full year 2012 is expected to reach 720Mt, according to Wang Qinghai, head of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA).

Chinese majors incur RMB 1.97bn losses in 2012
China’s major steelmakers incurred RMB 1.97bn ($309M) of losses in the January to November period of 2012, said the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) on Jan. 7. Although the market has shown signs of recovery since October, increasing iron ore prices and sluggish downstream demand continued to weigh on the iron and steel industry.
