Central American steel imports from China up 56% in Jan-Apr
Finished steel imports from China to Central America reached 169589t in Jan-Apr 2013, 56% more than same period of 2012. (Central America consists of Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama).

Last year’s AIST President dies
Dr Kent D Peaslee, the F Kenneth Iverson Chair of Steelmaking Technology and Curators’ Teaching Professor of metallurgical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, died suddenly on May 17 at age 56.

Steel Solutions in the Green Economy
The Future Steel Vehicle (FSV) study which commenced in 2007 and concentrated on high strength steel solutions for the body of electric cars that could be produced from 2015- 2020, has developed a design that will reduce GHG emissions by 50-70% taking into account all emissions from raw material procurement to disposal/ recycling at end of life. A body weight of just 176 to 201kg has been achieved depending on the model.
