Interpipe declares Iraq ambitions
Interpipe, a leading steel pipe manufacturing company in Ukraine, has announced putting in place a local support team to work in Basra following the approval from South Oil Company (SOC), one of the major fundamental formations of Iraqi national oil company (INOC), as a preferred supplier for the country.

Krakatau- Posco jv nears completion of $3bn mill
A joint venture between Indonesian steelmaker PT Krakatau and South Korean steelmaker Posco is at the final stage of construction of its US$3bn integrated steel plant in Cilegon, Banten. A coke oven plant heating up ceremony took place on 11 June 2013.

May crude steel production
World crude steel production for the 63 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 136Mt in May 2013, an increase of 2.6% compared to May 2012.

CO2 permit suspension an unnecessary intervention
Despite a compromise found by the European Parliament’s ENVI Committee, Eurofer still regards backloading (reducing the number of ETS CO2 permits available to trade) as an unnecessary intervention into a functioning market for carbon allowances.

UK Steel Annual Review
UK’s crude steel production in 2012 was 9.6Mt, little changed on the previous two years and lower than the 10.1Mt produced during the downturn of 2009. In 2012, of the crude steel made, 78% was produced through the integrated blast furnace – oxygen steelmaking route (BF-BOF) and the remainder in electric arc furnaces.
