Latin America second only to South Korea as importer of Chinese finished steel
China exported 4Mt of finished steel to Latin America during the first half of 2014, according to Alacero, the Latin American Steel Assocation.

Paul Wurth Group acquires Schalke coke oven machine technology
Paul Wurth Italia SpA and the German company Schalker Eisenhutte Maschinenfabrik GmbH (a subsidiary of the Eickhoff Group) have signed an asset agreement transferring the latter's coke oven machine segment to the Paul Wurth Group. The deal means that the patents, references, drawings, licences, brand name and know-how of the Bochum-based company are all taken over by Paul Wurth.

New Seversal long products mill will create 1,100 jobs
Russian steelmaker OAO Severstal has officially opened its Balakovo Long Product Mill in Russia's Saratov region. The mill will produce long products for the construction industry and is billed as one of the company's largest investment projects in recent years.

China Steel electrical steel plate plant in India – trial production starts September
Trial production is expected to start in September at an electrical steel plate production plant in Gujarat, Western India. The plant, which is 95% completed, is owned by China Steel, which has invested US$236 million in the project.
