Heavy artillery forces Ukrainian steel plants to close
Damage caused by heavy artillery has cut electricity transmission lines to the Ukrainian cities of Yenakiieve and Khartsyzsk, leading to the complete shutdown of production at Yenakiieve Steel, Enakievskiy Koksohimprom and Khartsyzsk Pipe. Avdiivka Coke is also cut off from electricity.

China’s crude steel output rises – but smaller mills suffer declining daily production rates
China’s daily average crude steel output rose month-by-month during H1 2014, despite falling steel prices. During the first six months of the year, the daily average output stood at 2.2Mt. Total crude steel output for 2014 is estimated to be 828Mt.

Finnish steelmaker merges with Swedish SSAB
USA and Sweden-based steelmaker SSAB has announced that the Finnish company Rautaruukki – otherwise known as Ruukki – has become an SSAB subsidiary after the US/Swedish company gained control over 95.1% of the Finnish company's shares.
