World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 132.9Mt in September 2016, up 2.0% up on September last year.

Wire rod joint venture in Mexico gets underway
A joint venture between Shinso Corporation and Kobe Steel plus four other companies – Metal One Corporation, Osaka Seiko, Grupo Simec, SAB de CV and O&K American Corporation – officially opened an automotive steel wire plant in Mexico at the Santa Fe Industrial Park in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Global steel demand forecast to increase by just 0.2%
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) forecasts that global steel demand will increase by 0.2% to 1.5 billion tonnes in 2016 following a contraction of 3% in 2015. In 2017, it is forecast that global steel demand will grow by 0.5% and will reach 1.51 billion tonnes.
