US-based Republic Steel 'positioned to restart' Lorain steel plant
Republic Steel, a leading North American supplier of special bar quality (SBQ) steel bars, which is used in the production of axles, drive shafts and suspension rods, is ‘positioned to restart’ it’s Lorain facility, including its idled electric arc furnace, casters and rolling mill.

US steel import permit applications down 21.2%
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported that steel import permit applications for the month of February totaled 2.42Mt (net tons), down 21.2% from the 3.08Mt (NT) recorded in January and down 15.6% from the January preliminary imports total of 2.87Mt (NT).
