US steel import permit applications for April down 2%, says AISI
Steel import permit applications for the month of April totalled 3.4Mt (net tons), down 2% from 3.5Mt (net tons) recorded in March but a 1.1% increase from the March preliminary imports total of 3.3Mt (net tons), according to Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data released by the US Department of Commerce.

Liberty Speciality Steels means 2,000 new and secured jobs
Liberty House has announced that it will create around 300 new steel jobs in South Yorkshire following the completion of its £100 million deal to acquire the Speciality Steels division of Tata Steel UK. The newly formed company, Liberty Speciality Steels, claims it is making multi-million pound investments to secure the future of five sites across the North of England and the West Midlands.

Latin American steel consumption static, says Alacero
During the first two months of 2017, the level of steel consumption in Latin America is similar to the same period last year (2016) according to figures released by the Latin America Steel Asssociation (Alacero). Regional production of crude and finished steel increased 10% and 2%, respectively.

US steel imports up 25% in March
Figures released by the US Census Bureau show that US steel imports for March 2017 totalled 3.39Mt (net tons) including 2.51Mt (net tons) of finished steel – up 24.8% and 21% respectively when compared with February 2017.

ISSDA sets record straight after 'fake news' distorts reality
The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) has issued a statement claiming that recent media reports have alleged that the implementation of a Quality Control Order (QCO) on Stainless Steel by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has led to the scarcity of the metal and subsequently a price hike in the country.
