Despite disagreement from his top aides and Cabinet members, Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, is planning to push ahead with a plan to impose ‘steep tariffs’ on steel – even if such a move will mean the beginning of a trade war.

Joint venture formed to drive HYBRIT initiative
SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall have formed a joint venture company to continue to drive the HYBRIT initiative. The three companies will each own one third of the company, which will seek to develop a steelmaking process that emits water instead of carbon dioxide.

US imports 3.43Mt of steel during May, says AISI
The USA imported a total of 3.43Mt (net tons) of steel during May, including 2.57Mt (net tons) of finished steel, up 2.5% and 1.8% respectively when compared with April 2017 final data compiled by the US Census Bureau.
