The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported today that for the month of May 2017, US steel mills shipped 7.66Mt (net tons) of steel, a 3.1% increase from the 7.42Mt (net tons) shipped in April 2017. The May 2017 figure remains virtually unchanged – bar a few tonnes – from that of May 2016 which, at 7,661,979 net tons was roughly 10 tons more. Shipments year-to-date in 2017 are 37.72Mt (net tons), a 3.3% increase when compared with the same period in 2016.

A comparison of May shipments to the previous month of April shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet up 4% percent, cold rolled sheet up 3% and hot dipped galvanised sheet and strip, no change.
