AISI head honcho supports Trump's 'Buy American, Hire American' stance
Commenting on 18 April when President Donald Trump’s ‘Buy American, Hire American’ executive order was due to be signed-off, the president and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) said it was a positive step in ensuring full enforcement of existing Buy America laws and ensuring the steel industry remains competitive.

Turkish steelmaker contracts Danieli Olivotto Ferré
Diler Iron and Steel Industry and Trade Inc., a part of Diler Holding and a leading Turkish company specialising in wire rod coils for automotive applications, has ordered a new bell-type annealing plant from Danieli Olivotto Ferrè, for heat treating coils in a protective atmosphere.

MMK Group's total crude steel output up 1.4% year-on-year
Russian steelmaker MMK Group has announced that total crude steel output during Q1 2017 has decreased 2.9% quarter-on-quarter when compared with Q4 2016, but is up 1.4% year-on-year. The company produced 3Mt over the quarter and it’s overall steelmaking capacity utilisation rate for the period exceeded 94%.

Chinese steel exports to Latin America – up 5%
China exported 12.8Mt of steel around the world during the first two months of 2017, according to the Latin America Steel Association (Alacero). Of that total, 1.3Mt was shipped to Latin America, up 5% on the same two-month period in 2016 while the flow of steel to the rest of the world contracted 27%.

NLMK Group boasts 2016 environmental spend boost
In 2016, Russian steelmaker NLMK Group boosted its spending on environmental projects and initiatives by 12% to RUB 7.05 billion (US$123 million).
