Kobe Steel Group establishes European headquarters
Kobelco Europe GmbH (KEU) has been established in Munich, Germany. The business has grown out of an existing company, Kobelco Machinery Europe GmbH (KME), which was established in 2012 as a base for Kobe Steel’s Machinery Business in Europe, mainly the marketing of nonstandard compressors and tire and rubber machinery.

Molybdenum production remains static
Figures released today by the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA) show that global production of molybdenum remained static in the first quarter of 2019 when compared to the same quarter last year, while global usage fell 7%. Q1 global production was 137.9 million pounds which represents a fall of 12% compared to the previous quarter.

Swedish steelmaker Sandvik has opened a state-of-the-art coiled tubing line for premium grades of seamless stainless steel products in smaller dimensions at its Zhenjiang tube mill near Shanghai, China.

Primetals develops breakthrough carbon-free technology
The world's first direct reduction process for iron ore concentrates from ore beneficiation that does not require any pre-processing, such as sintering and pelletising, has been developed by Primetals Technologies.
The development of the new process will benefit from Primetals' prior experience with its Finmet development and plant installations, the company claims.
