US import permit applications up 31% for July
Based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported that steel import permit applications for the month of July totalled 3.57Mt (net tons). This was a 31% increase from the 2.72Mt (permit tons) recorded in June and a 75.1% increase from the June final imports total of 2.04Mt. (All figures are net tons).

Steel giants put value at risk, says climate report
A new report by CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, analysing a US$259bn grouping of the world’s 20 largest steelmakers, has found that the steel sector is failing to reduce emissions at the rate required to keep global warming below 2°C – putting, on average, 14% of the companies’ potential value at risk.

Slovenian Steel Group embraces Industry 4.0
PSI Metals has been commissioned by the SIJ – the Slovenian Steel Group and its steel company SIJ Metal Ravne – with the implementation of the PSImetals modules Production, Quality, Order Dressing and Order Scheduling and Line Scheduling. PSImetals 5.18 will replace two legacy systems in the melt shop and downstream area.

June 2019 world crude steel production up 4.6%, says worldsteel
World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 159.0 million tonnes (Mt) in June 2019, a 4.6% increase compared to June 2018.
