1000 jobs to go at Tata Steel in the UK
Following on from a recent announcement by Tata Steel outlining plans to transform its business, the company has now announced that it will be shedding 1,000 jobs in the UK and mainly white collar management and office-based roles.

Russian steelmaker NLMK Lipetsk, the flagship site of NLMK Group, has relaunched its basic oxygen furnace No.2. Following an overhaul, the steelmaking facility now has a capacity of over 3Mt/yr.

EUROFER welcomes European Commission investigation
The European Steel Association (EUROFER) has today welcomed the European Commission's intention to investigate the circumvention of anti-dumping duties by Chinese exporters of metallic coated steel. This investigation, opened by the Commission itself, concerns the deliberate mislabelling of large volumes of this product from China.

Nippon Steel acquires Australian coal mine
Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corporation has, through its Australian subsidiary, entered into an agreement, together with its Japanese partners, to acquire a part of the mining interests of the Grosvenor Coal Mine from Anglo American, a leading mining company.

Future Steel Forum, 2-3 June 2020 – call for abstracts...
It seems like only yesterday that I put the finishing touches to the first ever Future Steel Forum, back in January 2017, ahead of the inaugural conference five months later in Warsaw, Poland. The reality, of course, is that three years have since passed and so have three very successful Future Steel Forum events – two in Poland and one earlier this year in Budapest.
