Liberty Steel talks to the unions – statement issued
Following on from the news this morning that Greensill Capital had gone into administration, a statement has been issued by Sanjeev Gupta, executive chairman of the GFG Alliance following his meeting with the unions. We now print that statement, in full, unedited.

Liberty Steel on a knife edge as Greensill Capital meets the administrators
Trouble at mill for Liberty Steel Group as Greensill Capital falls into administration, a body blow for Sanjeev Gupta, widely touted as 'the saviour of steel', and a big headache for the Government, which has held meetings with the steelmaker's CEO, John Ferriman. Nationalisation was not on the agenda, and more meetings are on the cards.

Meaningful infrastructure funding long overdue, says Burritt
If you get a C- at school, you're not doing very well and your teachers are likely to tell your folks that a vast improvement is needed if you're going to make the grade. Well, imagine if it's not mathematics or English literature that is at stake, but the infrastructure of the country in which you live and you'll have some idea of what's not been happening in the USA. The country is in dire need of sorting out its infrastructure, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers, which has given the country as a whole a rather depressing C- for the current state of its bridges, dams, drinking water, energy, levees, parks, ports, rail, road and other areas, such as hazardous waste, schools, transportation and so on.

APEAL announces 2025 recycling vision

Liberty looks into industrial-sized hydrogen steelmaking in France
Liberty Steel Group, part of Sanjeev Gupta’s sustainable industry leader GFG Alliance, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Paul Wurth and SHS-Stahl-Holding-Saar (SHS) to assess the building and operating of an industrial-sized, hydrogen-based steelmaking plant in Dunkerque in France. If developed, the plant would be one of the first operations of its type in France.
