HYBRIT first with hydrogen-reduced sponge iron
SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall have produced the world’s first hydrogen-reduced sponge iron at a pilot scale. The technological breakthrough in the HYBRIT initiative captures around 90% of emissions in conjunction with steelmaking and is a decisive step on the road to fossil-free steel, claims the Scandinavian steelmaker.

Saarstahl confirms intention to acquire French Liberty plants
German steelmaker Saarstahl has confirmed its intention to acquire two steel plants from Liberty Steel Group. The plants in question are Liberty Ascoval, located in Saint-Saulve, northern France, and Liberty Rail Hayange in Hayange, Moselle in the north east of the country.

Record 84% recycling rate for steel, says APEAL
Recycling of steel packaging in Europe has hit a new all-time high of 84%, according to figures issued by APEAL, the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging. It is an increase of 1.5% and is the ninth consecutive year in which the overall recycling rate has risen.
