Wuhan Iron and Steel Co (WISCO) has awarded Primetals Technologies an order for the revamp of its CSP casting and rolling line.

The revamp will see the line converted into a 4.2Mt/year conventional hot-strip mill (HSM).

The HSM will be fed by new conventional casters producing 230mm slabs and reheated by two walking beam furnaces.

Furthermore, the HSM will feature a high-capacity, single-strand reversing roughing mill with super heavy rolling force and two sets of heavy Edgers.

Primetals will also supply the complete Level 1 and Level 2 automation architecture for the line, including advanced process control models.

This project will see the conversion of a CSP plant into an HSM by Primetals for only the second time, with a similar project completed last year at the Thyssenkrupp Steel Bruckhausen site.

The project is set for completion in early 2028, with a 21-month timeframe given by Primetals.
