US steel mills shipped 7.9Mt (net tons) of steel during the month of August, according to figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The figure represents an increase of 6% on the 7.4Mt (net tons) shipped in July and a 5.1% rise compared to August 2016 shipments of 7.5Mt.

Shipments year-to-date in 2017 are 60.8Mt (net tons), a 3.1% increase when compared with 2016 shipments of 59Mt (net tons).

A comparison of August shipments to the previous month of July shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanised sheets and strip, up 8%, hot rolled sheets, up 5% and cold rolled sheets, up 3%.
