Corus is to fund a training scheme for workers at risk of redundancy at Teesside Cast Products, UK
A marathon meeting between Corus CEO Kirby Adams and Community Union general secretary Michael Leahy on Thursday ended on a high note with an agreement that Corus would fund a training scheme for workers at risk of redundancy at Teesside Cast Products (TCP).
While details are still being ironed out, it is believed the scheme will enrol between 200 and 300 steelworkers for a period of three to four months.
The scheme had hit a hurdle when the election period purdah came into effect and prevented the government from discussing the potential for matched funding.
However the enduring partnership between the Trade Unions and the company has produced a welcome result for the workforce and has provided more time to find a viable solution for the Teesside plant.
