A new flagship 1850mm wide coil slitting line is currently being installed at Vetchberry Steels, the coil processing division of ThyssenKrupp Materials (UK) Ltd, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp AG.

The new line is from Heinrich Georg GmbH Maschinenfabrik, a third generation, family-owned Germany company, and is expected to be the most efficient of its kind in the UK for stainless steel coil production.

Adrian Palmer, Vetchberry Steels’ operations manager, said: “It took 11 full size trucks just to ship in the components from factories in Germany and the UK, which gives you some idea of the scale of the equipment.”

ThyssenKrupp Materials, said Billy Kingsbury, director of Vetchberry Steels, has a strong reputation for delivering projects of this nature on time and on budget. The new line would yield ‘significant benefits’ for ThyssenKrupp Materials’ existing customers, he said, and enable the company to develop new markets.

Commissioning is expected to complete this month with full production from October.
