Tenova has signed a contract with Vinton Steel for the delivery of a walking hearth reheating furnace.
The furnace will be engineered to process high-carbon steel billets used for manufacturing large-diameter grinding media.
Chairman of Vinton Steel, and board director of Kyoei Steel, Masahiro Kitada, said: “This project is part of the strategic expansion of Kyoei Steel in the vital North American market and a clear demonstration of our long-term commitment to the state of Texas.
“We are executing the largest investment in our company’s history, and with this additional project, we contribute even more to the continued growth of the El Paso region.”
The furnace is set to be integrated into the recently announced Green CityMill Flex project which is set to help meet Vinton Steel’s goal to increase rebar production to 40kt per year.
Francesco Memoli, president and CEO of Tenova, said: “We are honoured that Vinton Steel continues to place its trust in Tenova’s technologies. This new reheating furnace will be the most advanced of its kind, equipped with sophisticated control systems and our proprietary low-NOx burners.
“It will enable Vinton Steel to broaden its grinding media product range while meeting the most stringent environmental regulations.”
The furnace is scheduled for commissioning in the first half of 2027, in parallel with the rest of the Green CityMill Flex project.
