Tenova has joined the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC), a consortium dedicated to accelerating the decarbonisation of heavy industry.

Established in 2021 and operating as a registered organisation in Australia, HILT CRC brings together heavy industry companies, research institutes and the Australian Government in order to move projects from laboratory research to pilot-scale implementation.

Markus Dorndorf, Senior Business Development Director Upstream BU at Tenova, said: “Our affiliation with HILT CRC strengthens Tenova’s ability to integrate advanced low-carbon process technologies into the iron and steel value chain.

“By combining our engineering expertise and experiences in green metal technologies and mining solutions with HILT’s leading Australian research ecosystem, we aim to accelerate the industrial deployment of scalable decarbonisation solutions and deepen our engagement in the evolving Australian market.”

Through its membership with HILT CRC, Tenova will gain:

  • Access to Australia’s industrial and academic networks
  • Opportunities to collaborate on research projects with leading industry players
  • Strategic insights into Australian steel decarbonistion initiatives
  • Enhanced positioning within the market

In 2025, HILT CRC and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation announced the creation of the Green Metals Innovation Network. An initiative aimed at accelerating the development of low-emission metal production.

This milestone further highlights the relevance of HILT CRC within the global sustainability landscape.
