Tata Steel UK has ordered a new water treatment plant (WTP) from the Italian company PERT Engineering. The new facility will serve Tata UK's state-of-the-art single EAF melt shop producing 450 tons/hour of liquid steel (over 3Mt/yr) supplied by Italian plant builder Tenova.
The WTP will have a total cooling-water flow rate of more than 25,000 cubic metres per hour, claims PERT.
According to the company, tailor-made plant design has been developed for maximum space optimization, matching the footprint made available by Tata UK at Port Talbot site in South Wales, UK.
The WTP is designed according to a total water recycling concept. In addition to open and closed cooling circuits, the plant features a dedicated treatment for raw water and drains reuse, says PERT.
The plant will be designed, manufactured, and commissioned by PERT by January 2028.
