Tata Steel has rolled out the first batch of galvanised steel coils from its Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL-1) at their Kalinganagar plant in India.

CGL-1 includes a third-generation air-knife with magnetic stabiliser, and an oxidation chamber. These features allow for the consistent production of high-quality automotive steel.

Prabhat Kumar, vice president of marketing and sales (flat products) at Tata, said: “The new Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL-1) at Kalinganagar has been engineered to produce advanced coated products with superior surface finish, formability, and corrosion resistance - specifically outlined to meet the stringent quality requirements of the automotive and appliance sectors.

“This state-of-the-art line has been designed with a forward-looking approach, tailored specifically to meet the evolving needs of our discerning customers.

“With advanced technology and sustainable practices at its core, the facility reinforces Tata Steel’s position as a trusted partner for the future of mobility.”

The introduction of CGL-1 is part of the expansion at the Kalinganagar plant, with a new blast furnace being commissioned last year.

As a result of the continued expansion the total capacity of the site has increased by 5m tonnes per annum.
