Stelco, a leading Canadian integrated steelmaker, is now a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) following a board meeting late last year.

“With its significant presence in North America, Stelco will be a great partner in our continued advocacy to fight unfairly traded foreign imports and level the playing field for the North American steel industry,” said AISI president and CEO Thomas J. Gibson. “The company’s support for our collaborative research and pro-manufacturing agenda will also deliver added-value to Stelco. I am pleased to welcome Stelco to the AISI family,” he added.

“As Chairman of AISI, it is a pleasure to welcome Alan Kestenbaum, Stelco executive chairman, and all of the Stelco team, to AISI,” said John Ferriola, AISI chairman and chairman, president and CEO of Nucor. Mr Ferriola added: “Never has it been more critical than it is today for our industry to speak out loud and clear and with a unified voice on major policy issues that are impacting North American manufacturers. We look forward to working with Stelco to enhance the competitiveness of the steel industry globally.”

Stelco’s Kesterbaum commented: “Stelco is committed to helping ensure that the steel industry remains a foundation for the North American economy.“ He added that ‘Stelco looks forward to contributing to the important work that AISI does on behalf of our industry.’
