Lakshmi Mittal, the well-known steel billionaire, is packing his suitcase and rolling off to a more tax-friendly country following a UK government crackdown on non-domiciled residents (or 'non-doms' as they are more popularly known).

Mr Mittal, the 74-year-old executive chairman of steel giant ArcelorMittal might be considering the United Arab Emirates, Italy or Switzerland, according to a news report in the UK Financial Times.

Steel Times International would highly recommend Italy for its great food and sunshine and its proximity to the United Kingdom.

In the UK, Mr Mittal owns many properties including a mansion in Kensington Palace Gardens, which he bought off of motor racing magnate Bernie Eccleston in 2004 for a mere £67 million; at the time it was the world's most expensive home.

Lakshmi Mittal is number seven on the Sunday Times Rich List and was a Blair-era Labour Party donor.

He gave up his position of CEO at ArcelorMittal four years ago, handing the job to his son Aditya Mittal.
