This morning’s (15 February) spectacular fireball across Russia’s Ural mountains passed close to the two steelworks of ChTPZ (a pipe producer in the TMK Group) and Chelyabinsk electrometallurgical works part of the Mechel Group.
The phenomenon is reported to be due to a meteorite entering the earth’s atmosphere.
Although damage was sustained by some buildings in the city of Yekaterinburg and up to 1100 people injured, mainly by falling glass resulting from the shock wave, there are no reports of damage to the steelworks.
