SSAB and Metal Solutions have entered a partnership for the supply of decarbonised steel. The partnership builds on a longstanding relationship and both companies’ vision for innovation and sustainability.
Metal Solutions is a UK supplier and fabricator of all traditional metal roofing materials, systems and components. The company currently utilises SSAB technology to aid in efforts to reduce the roofing and cladding industries’ environmental impact.
Dave Williams, managing director at SSAB, said: “We are happy to add fossil-free steel to our collaboration with Metal Solutions, which already uses our GreenCoat colour coated steel, containing rapeseed oil in the coating.
“By cutting our own carbon emissions, we can help our customers reduce their indirect emissions from the materials they use – it’s a win-win.”
To combat the significant carbon emissions associated with, SSAB produced the world’s first fossil-free steel in 2021 as a proof of concept. The steelmaking technology uses reduced sponge iron, removing the primary source of CO₂ emissions.
John Flood, director at Metal Solutions, said: "Collaboration, sustainability and innovation are part of our core values, these values are not optional, they're essential.
“This partnership allows us to break difficult boundaries and grow stronger together, offering our customers materials that support a greener and more responsible future."
