Société Nationale Industrielle et Miniére (SNIM) and AMAN Green Energy (a subsidiary of CWP Global) have announced plans to collaborate on a new facility that will produce direct reduced iron (DRI).

Under a memorandum of understanding (MOU), SNIM and the CWP Global subsidiary will produce millions of tonnes of green iron for export using CWP’s 30GW project ‘AMAN’ in Mauritania.

The hub, claims the companies, will be capable of converting Mauritanian raw iron ore into millions of tonnes of green hot briquetted iron (HBI) per year, which will be exported to the European steel industry from 2030 onwards.

The AMAN Green Hydrogen Hub was launched in 2020 and is expected to deploy approximately 18GW of wind power and 12GW of solar power once at full scale, potentially producing up to 110TWh each year.

SNIM, a Mauritanian company specialising in the transportation, exploration, mining, processing and export of iron ore, will supply the local iron ore via a 700km railway used for transporting iron ore under its operations.
