SMS group, in partnership with MCK Kutty Engineers, has signed a contract with IISCO Steel Plant (SAIL) for the supply of two coke dry quenching (CDQ) units.

Each CDQ has the capacity to process 130t of coke per hour form the new stamp charge coke oven batteries no.13 and 14, which for part of the plant’s crude steel expansion to 4.8Mt per year.

Bernhard Steenken, CSO, APAC and MEA, SMS group, said: “We are honoured that SMS group, together with MCK Kutty, has been selected to deliver these advanced CDQ units to IISCO Burnpur.

“Our Paul Wurth technologies will support improved coke quality, higher energy recovery, and reliable, stable operation. As SAIL’s partners, we are proud to support its expansion and sustainability goals.”

The project will be delivered to the plant in West Bengal, India, on a discrete turnkey basis, including design, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning and other related services.

The two units will be the largest single-chamber CDQs in any of the integrated steel plants SAIL operates.
