SMS to deliver four-strand caster to Xiangtan Iron & Steel

Xiangtan Iron & Steel has awarded SMS Group the order for a new SMS Concast four-strand bloom caster (CCM#12).

The caster will be added to the existing BOF shop in Xiangtan city, China, with the company intending to use the caster to produce ultra-high-quality blooms in two section sizes, 450mm x 530mm and 395mm x 410mm.

CCM#12 combines numerous advanced and customised technologies to meet stringent product and performance guarantees. This includes Dynamic Mechanic Soft Reduction to improve internal bloom quality by controlling central porosity and segregation.

Xiangtan will use the caster to expand its capability to produce high-end special bar quality blooms to serve growing markets such as the automotive industry and green power sector.

Commissioning is scheduled for the end of December 2026.
