SMS group has entered a strategic partnership with The Systems Group. This agreement will allow SMS group to integrate Spray-Cooled technology as part of its solutions for electric arc furnaces and secondary metallurgy plants.

It is hoped the partnership will lead to safer and more efficient cooling systems that remove high-pressure risks while reducing emissions and maintenance needs. Spray-Cooled technology operates at atmospheric pressure, eliminating the risk of high-pressure water leaks.

The technology, according to SMS group, also offers benefits regarding heat retention, reduced emissions, energy efficiency, ease of maintenance and design flexibility.

Andrea Lanari, vice president of metallurgy at SMS said: “At SMS group, our mission is to deliver the best to our customers – not only in performance and efficiency, but also in workplace safety and sustainability. Partnering with The Systems Group allows us to bring a proven, field-tested technology to our customers that aligns with these values.”

Through the agreement, SMS will be able to offer Spray-Cooled EAF roofs, sidewalls, hoods and ducts. Spray-Cooled technology is a patented system developed by operators in the 1980s and has been owned by The Systems Group since 1999.

Lee Morgan, CEO and owner of The Systems Group, remarked: “I am very excited about this partnership with SMS. The Systems Group and SMS have dozens of successful installations together – making melt shops safer and delivering the most uptime of any electric arc furnace package on the market.”
