Kalyani Ispat has placed an order with SMS Group to supply a high-speed bar and wire rod mill for its Rajnandgaon plant in Chhattisgarh, India.
The mill is engineered to eliminate reheating furnaces, thereby reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency through induction-heating technology.
Bernhard Steenken, CSO, APAC & MEA, SMS Group, said: “This partnership underscores the trust industry leaders place in SMS Group’s advanced high-speed mill technology. Our mission extends beyond supplying equipment—we deliver a competitive edge through enhanced productivity, energy efficiency, and sustainability.”
The mill will also be equipped with SMS’s advanced drive and automation technology, enabling sequential mill control from the entry area to the bar and coil finishing lines.
With an annual production capacity of 500kt, the new mill will allow Kalyani to respond to the increasing demand for construction steel in the Asian market.
It will produce rebar in diameters of 8mm to 40mm at up to 45 m/s, and wire rod ranging from 5.5mm to 20mm, at up to 100 m/s.
Startup is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
