Leading steelmaker Salzgitter AG, one of Germany's leading steel and technology groups, has been awarded a top “A” score for its climate action efforts by the renowned global non-profit organization CDP. This positions the Group in the top 2% of more than 22,000 companies evaluated worldwide.

According to Salzgitter, the assessment is based on clearly defined criteria, including the transparent disclosure of environmental data, the recording and assessment of environmental risks, the introduction of effective management processes and the implementation of specific measures geared to improving environmental performance. It also considers the demonstration of best practices and the definition of ambitious, science-based climate targets. This award confirms Salzgitter AG’s consistent approach to rethinking industry and driving transformation toward a circular economy.

"We take responsibility and demonstrate that a future-proof and high-performing industry and climate protection go hand-in-hand."

Gunnar Groebler, chairman of the executive board of Salzgitter AG.

Gunnar Groebler, chairman of the executive board of Salzgitter AG, commented: "This award is a significant confirmation of our strategy: We take responsibility and demonstrate that a future-proof and high-performing industry and climate protection go hand-in-hand. With our SALCOS® transformation programme, we are pioneering competitive low-CO₂ steel production in Germany. The A-rating serves as both motivation and obligation to continue on our path with determination.”

Salzgitter AG has participated in CDP’s disclosure platform every year since 2016. Achieving the top rating this year is closely tied to the company’s long-term “Salzgitter AG 2030” strategy, focused around the SALCOS® — Salzgitter Low CO₂ Steelmaking — programme.

SALCOS® sets out a gradual transition of steel production to hydrogen-based processes, making a substantial contribution to industrial transformation. At the same time, the company actively shapes change across the entire value chain through partnerships and innovation.
