JSW Steel may receive legislative approval for a planned 3Mt/y steel plant in Salboni, West Bengal, India soon.

The plant could be operational within three years and would also include a 300MW captive power plant.

JSW bought 297 acres of land from farmers but did not submit correct notification under the West Bengal Land reforms Act 1955.

According to the Act notification is mandatory for holding more than 24 acres in rural Bengal.

The state government looks set to veto the act on this occasion once it has received a transaction fee from the company.
