Qatar Steel is setting up a 1.1Mt/y plant at Mesaieed, Qatar to boost its production in response to rising steel demand in the domestic market and in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region.

The plant will be designed according to Siemens VAI’s ‘best technology’ in the field of steel plant machinery, equipment and automation.
It aims low investment, high productivity, production flexibility, low specific consumption cost and high quality products.
The agreement for the new plant was signed at Qatar Steel by company director/general manager Ali Hassan al-Muraiki and Norbert Petermaier, senior vice president of Siemens VAI.
Qatar Steel was formed in 1974 as the first integrated steel plant in the Arabian Gulf. Commercial production began in 1978 with the company becoming wholly owned by Industries Qatar (IQ) in 2003.
