Engineering company Primetals Technologies has started up a modernized slitting line at thyssenkrupp Rasselstein’s steel plant in Andernach, Germany. Primetals upgraded the Level 1 automation system and the drive system at slitting line No. 1.

The upgraded slitting line features all-in-one software for all relevant automation-related aspects, including line coordination, sequence and support functions, material tracking, diagnostics, data management, and auxiliary control functions. Primetals has also supplied thyssenkrupp Rasselstein with new AC and DC drive technologies, a hydraulic drive control system, and a software safety solution for the operation of the slitting line.

According to Primetals, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein can expect higher availability levels for the slitting line, as well as increased efficiency, fast production ramp-up, and minimized shutdown time.

thyssenkrupp Rasselstein manufactures tinned or special chromium-plated sheet at thicknesses from 0.100 to 0.499 mm. Over 90% of the steel the company produces finds its application in the packaging sector, while the material is also used in the automotive and electronics industries.
