Primetals Technologies has secured a contract to supply a continuous tandem cold mill (C-TCM) for silicon steel products, for a major steel producer in China.
Primetals will oversee the complete line design and supply of the C-TCM, including automation and advisory service for installation and commissioning.
The project is scheduled to start operations by the end of 2027, and expected to increase the owner’s annual output value.
The contract includes Hyper UCM features work roll shifting and optimised combination of work roll and intermediate roll diameters.
Primetals outlined how this technology allows operators to use smaller-diameter work rolls with shifting functionality, which is important for achieving thin final gauges. This, in combination with advanced lubrication technologies, allows the mill to process higher-strength materials into thinner strips, ensuring preferable quality and productivity.
The contract also includes the implementation of Level 1 and Level 2 automation, which will support the production of high-quality silicon steel by leveraging systems such as strip temperature modelling, off-gauge optimisation, and edge drop control.
