Tokyo Steel has awarded Primetals Technologies an order for the upgrade of the hot-dip galvanising line at their Okayama Works. Primetals will collaborate with Chugai Ro and Hitachi on this project, with the upgraded line set to start operations in the first quarter of 2027.
The order is set to convert the line into a versatile production facility, capable of manufacturing both cold-rolled and hot-dpi galvanised coil. Key improvements will include the installation of induction heating technology in the front section, with enhanced cooling capacity installed in the later sections.
Primetals will be responsible for the engineering, supplying terminal equipment and skin pass mill modifications. Furthermore, the company will also handle the engineering and supply of the annealing furnace equipment, as well as supervising the installation and commissioning.
Tokyo Steel is a leader in arc furnace production and has recently launched it’s low-CO2 steel brand, Almost Zero, which has already been used in multiple projects throughout Japan.
