Primetals Technologies has launched its patented Advanced Roller Guides for long rolling mills.
The system combines mechanical design with smart sensing technology, which the company states can improve safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Advanced Roller Guides are designed for rod and bar mills, and address alignment inaccuracies, cobbles and unplanned downtime.
Primetals highlighted how the guides can improve dimensional accuracy, enable predictive maintenance and reduce manual measurements.
One early adopter of the system said: “The guides we have trialed have performed extremely well, and the modifications made to the program for continuous mills have been very helpful.
“The key for us was that it provided the information needed to prevent a cobble and reduce the risk of injury, which is more likely to occur during upset conditions.”
Advanced Roller Guides also provide continuous section height tracking, guide alignment monitoring and internal condition diagnostic. With other features being able to detect wear early.
