Wuyang Iron and Steel and Primetals Technologies have achieved the startup of world's most powerful single-strand continuous caster.
The caster, located in Wugang, China, is engineered to produce slabs up to 460mm thick.
By partially replacing traditional ingot casting with this advanced slab caster, Wuyang will cut operational costs and improve efficiency according to Primetals.
Primetals’ Single Roll DynaGap segments produce 5,000kN of force and make it possible to dynamically adjust each roll gap as production parameters change.
Also featured is Primetals technology for setting up ideal caster-roll geometry from the design stage. It is hoped this technology can cut unsteady bulging by 50%, allowing for improved casting speeds and productivity.
The slabs produced will allow Wuyang to meet the growing demand for steel products from industries such as offshore wind power, solar power, and pressure vessels.
