worldsteel forecasts steel demand will drop by 2.3%
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released an update of its Short Range Outlook (SRO) for 2022 and 2023. worldsteel forecasts that steel demand will contract by 2.3% in 2022 to reach 1,796.7 Mt after increasing by 2.8% in 2021.

Tata Steel UK to sell low carbon steel
Tata Steel - the UK’s largest steel producer – will begin sales of certified low-CO2 steel to customers. The lower CO2 certified steel is based on CO2 savings achieved by Tata Steel in the UK and is verified by independent assurance experts DNV.

Sasol Ltd, an integrated energy and chemical company, and ArcelorMittal South Africa will collaborate on research into the production of green hydrogen and steel and explore the use of renewable electricity to convert captured carbon into sustainable fuels and chemicals.

LIBERTY Steel UK has successfully completed trials of ecoke - a sustainable new raw material that can replace anthracite, the main source of charge carbon in electric steelmaking, and reduce steel’s carbon footprint by as much as 30%, the company claims.
