Chinese growth in consumption stalls
China’s consumption of steel rose just 0.65% to 510.28Mt during the first nine months 2012, much slower than the 10.38% increase seen in the same period 2011.

Eurofer concerned over Glencore Xstrata merger over zinc monopoly
Eurofer, the European Steel Association, has criticised the European Commission’s approval of the Glencore/Xstrata merger. Remedies addressing zinc supplies, says Eurofer, are insufficient to shield the European market from the dominant influence of one supplier.

October 2012 global crude steel production up just 1.3%
World crude steel production for the 62 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 126Mt in October 2012, an increase of 1.3% compared to October 2011.
