EUROFER's Eggert calls for a level playing field on climate change
EUROFER, the European Steel Association, welcomes the fact that a global agreement has been reached on climate change, but says that it lacks a comprehensive strategy as to how to achieve its intended objectives – not to mention the lack of a level playing field that would protect European industry from carbon leakage.

NLMK invests in surface quality
Russian steelmaker NLMK has invested 460 million rubles (US$6.5 million) in a new 250kt/yr strip-straightening machine at its Novolipetsk site with a view to improving the surface quality of its uncoated cold-rolled steel.

JSW Steel in Ballari, India, still without iron ore mine
JSW Steel’s 10Mt/yr steel plant in Ballari, India, still depends upon exported iron ore. While the plan back in the late nineties was to give the plant its own mine, it has yet to materialise nearly 20 years on from when the plant was commissioned in 1997.
