As part of an extensive technical upgrading programme currently underway, ArcelorMittal Galati has commissioned and finalised the ramp-up of a new hot leveller serving its heavy plate mill number 2.
Bruno Ribo, CEO of ArcelorMittal Galati, which is located in Romania, said that the investment solidifies the company’s position in the plates market. “We can now deliver new and better products with better services for customers,” he said.
The new plate leveller, supplied by Danieli, replaced a machine that had been in operation for the past 30 years and had increased significantly overall performance in terms of productivity, quality, consistency of flatness in finished products and operational safety.
According to Danieli, the new hot leveller has 80% more levelling power than the unit it replaces and also ensures the production of a higher range of thicknesses and qualities for plates used in applications such as shipbuilding and construction.
ArcelorMittal operates another Danieli hot leveller at its plant in Gijon, Spain.
