Russian steelmaker PJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) broke its January 2015 production record of 526.2Mt when it produced 527.5kt of metal in May 2018 through its Mill 2000 rolling mill.
Commissioned in 1994, MMK’s Mill 2000 is claimed to be one of the most powerful facilities in Russia. It is located at MMK’s sheet rolling shop number 10 and was modernised in the mid-2000s when the fourth heat treating furnace was built and equipment was upgraded.
Modernisation made it possible to produce thicker products and improve their mechanical characteristics. It also increased mill capacity to 6Mt/yr.
Mill 2000 has operated at maximum capacity utilisation rate ‘over the past few years’, claims MMK. “The mill’s equipment makes it possible to produce the full range of MMK steel grades,” the company claims.
