Talleres y Aceros S.A. (TYASA) has ordered a twin vacuum degassing (VD) plant from Primetals Technologies for its Ixtaczoquitlán site in Mexico.

The new VD plant will boost meltshop performance and capacity, allowing TYASA to produce a greater volume of high-quality steel grades.

Primetals highlighted that it has developed a tailor-made solution for this VD plant and will use the same rail tracks and ladle cars as the existing twin-ladle furnaces, which the company also implemented.

The ladle cars will be modified by adding VD tanks on the existing car frames, allowing ladle furnace treatment while the ladle is positioned in the VD tank.

Primetals’ scope of supply includes key mechanical equipment, a vacuum pump system, fluid and hydraulic equipment, Level 1 and 2 automation systems, electrical equipment and advisory services for installation and commissioning.

Primetals has also stated that the plant installation will have only a minor impact on production, as the existing plant layout was designed with a future VD project in mind.

Startup scheduled for October 2027.
